Sludge victims: Indonesian villagers who lost their homes to a mud volcano immerse themselves in the volcano's muck in Sidoarjo, Java. They were dramatizing their suffering during a protest marking the seventh year of the ecological disaster. Experts believe the gas drilling company Lapindo Brantas, controlled by the family of powerful tycoon Aburizal Bakrie, was responsible for the catastrophe, which permanently buried 12 villages.
